Nichols-Rice-Cherry HouseThis greek revival home was built in 1850 and located at Congress and San Jacinto Streets. The home was owned by 3 prominent figures in Houston history including Gen. Ebenezer Nichols and Mrs. E. R. Cherry. Perhaps the most well known was philanthropist William Marsh Rice who purchased the home in 1856. Rice later went on to found Rice University. St. John ChurchBuilt by German farmers in 1891, this historic Evangelical Lutheran church was originally located in Northwest Harris County. In 1968, it was donated to the Houston Heritage Society and moved to Sam Houston Park in Downtown Houston. This photograph shows the Heritage Plaza building towering just behind St. John Church. St John Church Downtown Houston Photo Houston City HallModern skyscrapers of downtown dwarf the 11-story Houston City Hall building. Construction on the structure began in 1938 and finished in 1939. The art deco style facade is made of Texas Cordova limestone. The building is still operational as part of a network of buildings that makes up the the core of Houston government.
