Dogtrot log cabins were typical dwellings of many early Texas settlers. Dogtrot homes feature two small cabins on either side of a covered open-air breezeway. Each cabin has it's own entrance and chimney. The breezeway served as an all-weather outdoor sitting and recreation area. The Alamo

The most famous San Antonio attraction is without question, the Alamo. Originally named Misión San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo played a critical role in the Texas Revolution. For 13 days, a band of brave Texian, Tejano and Tennessean volunteers defended the Alamo against the larger Mexican Army. In a final siege with over 4000 soldiers, Antonio López de Santa Anna's Mexican Army overtook the Alamo. Subsequentially, the Mexican's mercilously executed the remaining Texas defenders. Those slain defenders helped fuel the defeat of Mexican forces only a month later at the Battle of San Jacinto under command of Sam Houston, as they cried "Remember the Alamo!"
Thus giving way to Texas independence from Mexico.
